ChessCore Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of ChessCore, a chess service available as an iOS app, an Android app, and a website (together, "ChessCore", "the service"), operated by Lennart Soligard ("we", "us"). By using ChessCore you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Your account

• You can use parts of ChessCore without an account. Online play, ratings, chat and some other features require you to sign in (for example with Apple or Google) or play as a guest.
• You are responsible for activity under your account. Choose a username that is not offensive, does not impersonate someone else, and does not contain personal information.
• You must be at least 13 years old to use ChessCore. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country, you need a parent or guardian's permission.

2. Acceptable use

When you play, chat, or use any social feature, you agree not to:

• insult, harass, threaten, or bully other users, or use hateful, discriminatory, sexual or violent language;
• post spam, advertising, links to harmful sites, or other people's personal information;
• cheat, for example by using a chess engine or other outside help during a rated game, manipulating ratings, or colluding with other players;
• try to disrupt, hack, scrape, reverse engineer, or overload the service, or bypass any security or moderation measures;
• use the service for anything illegal.

3. Public chat and moderation

• Messages written in the public game chat (visible to players and spectators of a game) are visible to everyone watching that game. Do not share private information there.
• To keep chat safe, messages are checked by a word filter on your device and by an automated moderation system. This system sends the message text to an AI service provider (Anthropic) for classification. Messages that break these rules may be removed automatically.
• Repeated or serious violations lead to a temporary or permanent mute from chat, and may lead to suspension or removal of your account.
• You can report any message with the flag (⚑) button. We review reports and may act on them, but we cannot promise that every message is reviewed in real time.
• Automated moderation is not perfect. It may sometimes remove a harmless message or miss a harmful one. You can contact us if you believe a decision was a mistake.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of what you write and upload (such as chat messages and profile photos). You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, display, and process this content as needed to run ChessCore, including showing it to other users and moderating it. You promise that you have the right to post it and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights.

5. Premium subscription

ChessCore Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Prices, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their terms. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Details about the subscription are also described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Availability and changes

ChessCore is provided "as is". We work to keep it running and accurate, but we do not guarantee that the service will always be available, error-free, or that games, ratings, puzzle progress, or other data will never be lost. We may change, add, or remove features at any time, for example to improve safety or reduce costs.

7. Suspension and deletion

We may mute, suspend, or remove accounts that break these terms. You may stop using ChessCore at any time and can delete your account from My Account > Delete Account in the app.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses or for content posted by other users. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law, or liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The latest version is always available on this page. If you keep using ChessCore after a change, you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of mandatory consumer law in the country where you live.
